Symptoms of malaria are often not readily apparent when you return home, so seek medical attention as soon as possible. Tell your doctor about your travel history and any animal bites you may have received. Also, continue taking antimalarial medicine as directed by your doctor. Stopping malaria medicine too soon may cause malaria.
Always remember to pack enough clothes to avoid heat. Heat-related illnesses can be deadly, so dress in loose clothing and limit physical activity during high temperatures. Always keep a copy of your passport with you and keep the actual one at home. Always lock your hotel doors and store your valuables in a secure location. When in doubt, visit a local doctor or visit a US Department of State website. Remember that the US Department of State offers tips on safe travel.
